Overview

Droplet estimates the water footprint of everyday products and helps farmers make better irrigation decisions, both driven by AquaCrop simulation models. I led a five-member team through Smart India Hackathon 2024, a national-level innovation competition, where the project was recognised as a National-Level Winner among teams from across India.

Key Features

  • Product water-footprint estimation that quantifies the water embedded in everyday products using AquaCrop simulation models, making an invisible cost legible to ordinary consumers.
  • Farmers Corner, powered by the same AquaCrop simulation model, giving irrigation and canopy-growth guidance grounded in crop-water modelling rather than rules of thumb.
  • Modular platform architecture structured so that farmer guidance and household water-use tracking stay independently extensible over a shared AquaCrop simulation backend and a common data layer.

Impact

Two very different audiences — households trying to understand their consumption and farmers deciding when to irrigate — are served by one simulation core. The architecture kept both tracks extensible without either one constraining the other, which is what let a hackathon prototype hold together as a coherent platform.
